 Liturgy
has a special and unique place in the life of St. Rita in Nanakuli, a
community of faith. We gather regularly to praise and thank God, to remember
and make present God's great deeds, to offer common prayer, and to realize
and celebrate the kingdom of peace and justice.
 The
Liturgy Committee gathers monthly to plan every aspect of our seasonal
liturgical celebration, from Advent and Christmas, Lent and Easter, to
St. Rita Feast Day and Thanksgiving. We also plan the Advent and Lenten
Communal Reconcilliation Service.
 For
more information on how you may participate in this committee please contact
Ms. Mele Ahuna at the Parish Office.

| Altar Servers |
| The
primary role of an altar server is that of assisting the celebrant
and preparing the table of worship. It’s an opportunity for
education and formation of all those who are called to this ministry.
Calling all who want to serve the Lord in this ministry.

| Ushers/ Ministry of Welcome |
|
The heart and core of the Usher’s ministry is that of Hospitality
and the Aloha Spirit. Ushers should have a ready smile and cordial
attitude throughout, especially where newcomers are concerned. Patience
and politeness are the badges they must wear over their hearts.
To enter into the proper spirit, the usher should imagine that the
people are guests in his own home. How would you treat them? Notice
how the host is constantly on the lookout for the comfort and pleasure
of his guest; how he anticipates their needs; how courteous he is
in dealing with them.
In brief, all of the specific duties of ushers have one goal: to
create a pleasant ant, comfortable orderly atmosphere so that the
people will give fitting praise and worship to God.

| Lectors |
| The
Lectors ministry provides an opportunity for members of the Catholic
Community to serve our Lord and God during the Mass Celebration.
A Lector is called to proclaim God’s Word as written in Sacred
Scripture, the Bible. The Sacred Scripture Readings comprise a most
important part of the Mass Celebration. The readings are selected
to support the theme of the Sunday (or daily) Mass, and are usually
included or referred to in Father’s Homily.
Through the
Bible Readings, proclaimed by the Lector, we continue to grow and
mature in our faith, our hope and most importantly our love. The
Bible Readings instruct us in the ways of God the Father, God the
Son, and God the Holy Spirit. To be called to serve as a Lector,
is to be called to a very, very special ministry, indeed!

| Eucharistic Ministers |
| Who
are the Eucharistic Ministers? They are your brothers and sisters
who seek to serve God and His people here in Nanakuli, in a special
way. They make a commitment to the parish community to serve at
specific assigned masses. What is the purpose of this ministry?
The purpose is to assist the priest in bringing Jesus in the Eucharist
to His people. This is done during mass at communion time; or when
a member of the parish due to illness or accident cannot attend
mass then the Eucharist can be brought to them. At mass the Eucharistic
Ministers assist in brining the Eucharist to the people under both
kinds, that is, under the form of bread and wine. This is the restoration
of a practice of the early church, the congregation receiving the
body and blood of Christ. “He, who feeds on my flesh and drinks
my blood, has life eternal and I will raise him up on the last day.
For my flesh is real food; and my blood real drink.” (John
6:54-55) When bringing the Eucharist to someone who cannot attend
mass, we bring a part of the sacred assembly to them, so they are
not separated from our celebration of the Eucharist at mass. “Is
not the cup of blessing we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ?
And is not the bread we break a sharing in the body of Christ because
the loaf of bread is one, we many though we are, one body for we
all partake of the one loaf.” (1 Corinthians 10:16-17)
|
| Music ministry |
The purpose of the Choir
is to motivate the assembly to participate and lift their voices
up in songs. Liturgical music in the Mass promotes union of the
faithful and inspires them to become “of one heart in love”.
Singing, more that mere reciting gives extra importance to those
special moments in the liturgy when the faithful are allowed to
give evidence of their consent to praise the Lord. For when we sing,
we are praying twice. Therefore, let us life our voices to God!!
